GSEB Board Exams 2021: Gujarat Board reduces syllabus by 30% for Std 9 to 12

Reduced GSEB Study Program:

Gujarat Board of Secondary and Higher Education (GSHSEB) decided to reduce the study program of classes 9 to 12 by 30% for the 2020-21 academic year considering the current situation of the coronavirus pandemic . In addition, the GSEB 10th 2021 exams and the GSEB 12th 2021 exams will be held on May 21 and the exams for classes 9 and 11 will be held in June next year. The decision was made taking into account the course load of the students.

According to the GSHSEB, the education department held several meetings on it on July 23, August 20, and September 11. The opinion of educators was also sought in this regard. Subsequently, on September 29, a meeting was held in the presence of Minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama, after which a decision was made to streamline the curriculum.

Speaking about the decision to reduce the curriculum, the state Education Minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama said: "Schools are closed since March and classes are held online. Taking into account the difficulties faced by students and Parents, we held four meetings with educators in which parents and students concerns about the exams and the syllabus. We have decided that the exams for class 10,12 will be held on May 21 and class 9 , 11 will be held in June. Taking into account the same concerns, we have also reduced a 30% curriculum for classes 9-12 for 2020-21 ".

According to sources, previously, students and parents made a representation, demanding that the curriculum be rationalized, which ultimately led to discussion and the decision to reduce approximately 30% of the curriculum. This means that the tests will not have questions from this 30% portion. The decision was made to make studies less stressful for students and they can prepare well for board exams, officials said.

However, to help students retain all the basics that will help them prepare for competitive exams, teachers will teach this particular 30% portion of the syllabus.

Topics that make up the 30% portion that will be reduced will be forwarded to district education officials who will inform schools about them. In addition, it will also be uploaded to the official website of the board.
